MODERN TREATMENT OF PILES: STAPLED HAEMORRHOIDECTOMY

Piles / haemorrhoids are probably the commonest anal condition that leads a patient to seek treatment. Majority can be treated by medications, dietary advice and non surgical procedures such as banding. However, there remains a significant number that requires surgery. Traditionally, patient fears to have surgery for piles as it is known to be painful.

Stapled haemorrhoidectomy is now a proven operation for large piles that require surgery. It offers the following advantages in comparison to the conventional method:

1. Less pain
2. Earlier return to normal activities / work
3. Better cosmetic (no external wound)
4. Less secondary bleeding
